The Grand Traverse Commons is an awesome place to visit. In fact, its one of the largest historic preservation and adaptive reuse redevelopments in the United States. Originally built in 1883 to serve as a State Hospital, the grounds are going through a revitalization project and house living areas, restaurants, wineries, coffee shops, and more. You can read about its lengthy history on Wikipedia.
The grounds are located about a mile from Downtown TC:
What this means today is that there is a ton to do:
- Acres and acres of hiking trails
- Awesome wineries, restaurants, coffee shops like Left Foot Charley, Stellas, and Higher Grounds.
- Many Michigan-themed shops
- A newly opened brewery
All just an elevator ride away. There’s also guided tours of the grounds that take you into the underground tunnels and unfinished buildings. You can check out the event calendar here:
2 Bed Condo
Our larger unit is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo that starts on the 3rd floor and sprawls upwards to the 5th floor. You enter the unit on the 3rd floor, kick off your shoes, and take the beautiful spiral staircase to the 4th floor. There, you will find 2 bedrooms (one with a Casper memory foam King bed, and the other with two Twin beds), the main living area, and 2 bathrooms. There’s tons of exposed brick here, and you can see floor joists from the original top-level that was built in 1883. Turn on the 60″ plasma TV and enjoy our fully hooked-up Netflix and Hulu.
The kitchen is fully stocked with a gas range, full-size fridge, and all the pots, pans, dishes, and cookware you need to craft up a meal. Also make use of the rare in-unit washer and dryer!
Climb one more level and you will find a sleeping loft with a Queen size bed. While technically not a bedroom since its open to the living area below, it allows you to sleep up to 6 people total in this unit.
